ASA is a UV‑resistant, weather‑tough engineering plastic used widely in 3D printing, especially for outdoor parts, automotive components, and anything that needs to survive sun, rain, and heat without degrading. It behaves similarly to ABS but fixes ABS’s biggest weakness: sunlight.
What ASA actually is
ASA stands for Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate, a thermoplastic designed to be:
• UV resistant so it doesn’t yellow or become brittle outdoors
• Weather resistant so it handles rain, heat, cold, and moisture
• Impact resistant so it survives knocks and stress
• Chemically resistant so oils and solvents don’t easily damage it
It was originally created as a UV‑stable alternative to ABS, using acrylate rubber instead of butadiene, which gives it far better outdoor durability.

ASA‑CF is a carbon‑fibre–reinforced version of ASA, designed for parts that need to survive harsh outdoor conditions while also being stiffer, stronger, and more dimensionally stable than standard ASA. It keeps ASA’s UV and weather resistance but adds the mechanical advantages of chopped carbon fibre.

ASA‑CF combines Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate with carbon fibre, giving you:

PA12‑CF15 is a nylon (polyamide‑12) reinforced with 15 percent carbon fibre, giving you a material that is extremely strong, stiff, lightweight, and dimensionally stable. It sits in the high‑performance tier of engineering filaments and is widely used for functional prototypes, robotics, automotive parts, and industrial fixtures.
What PA12‑CF15 actually is
PA12 is already one of the most stable nylons, with low moisture absorption and excellent chemical resistance. Adding 15 percent chopped carbon fibre transforms it into a material with:

Higher tensile strength
Lower shrinkage and warping
Better heat resistance
Lower weight compared to solid nylon
Improved dimensional accuracy

Mechanical and thermal performance

Tensile strength: around 50–76 MPa
Elastic modulus: around 3.6 GPa
